Preparations in Washington, D.C.

I have been officially accepted into the George Washington University's signature study abroad program to Santiago, Chile for the Fall 2018 semester! This program is exceptional because not only will I be able to take courses from the Universidad de Chile, the oldest and most prestigious university in Chile, I will also have the chance to take courses at the Pontificia Universidad Católica. In this way, I will experience both university environments simultaneously and get more chances to get to know students and locals. The GW Chile program offers three optional GW courses: Historical Memory and Human Rights in Chile, an Advanced Spanish Oral Communication course with a focus on Chilean culture, and the option to do an internship for credit. I will be taking on all three options, and hopefully I will be accepted to intern in a position that teaches me more about sustainability and the environment in the country or region.

My next step is to apply for scholarships which, if I receive, will allow me to have more opportunities and help make my overall semester abroad more comfortable. I have completed a budget sheet that I am continuously updating as new expenses arise, such as the cost of getting a background check and fingerprints for the student visa. I cannot wait to start planning more in depth and figuring out where I want to travel within Chile, as well as outside of it. It is beginning to feel like more than just a dream!
